Indigenous Football vs. West Point + 6 Picks
A newsletter about available IP; I do the reading for you
Welcome to The Optionist! As always, thanks for reading. A few things to start. I have gotten such widely varying opinion about where to price this newsletter that we wanted to take one beat to talk to more of you in the community about what makes most sense (group subscriptions for your company vs. individual subscriptions; producers vs. development executives; etc). For those of you who were personally sent the Founding Subscriber email and subscribed already, I will be reaching out to you separately. Our goal is to best serve our core audience of creative professionals looking for great IP going forward and intend to take one more week to incorporate the feedback I am receiving.
Some of you may not have received last week’s newsletter because of some technical snafus. Included among our picks was the story of Nobody’s Darling, an up-and-coming Chicago bar that just scored a coveted James Beard nomination and could be the basis for an unscripted or scripted effort (think a queer Cheers). There was also a cool new book about the Olympic swimming rivalry between surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku, actor Johnny Weissmuller and Katsuo Takaishi. Plus, an awesome female thriller that’s basically Lean In meets The Firm. You can catch up on it here.
Now onto this week's picks, which include a great period football drama, a YA story about romance and anti-semitism and a moving small-town drama about two widows bound in grief. But let’s start with the New York Magazine story that had everyone talking this week.
