IP Picks🔎: A Coming-of-Age Bumper Edition
➕ An in-flight teen murder mystery and inside the grueling world of management consulting
Welcome to The Optionist. As always, thanks for reading along.
I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling optimistic that we’ll see a resolution to the strike very soon. It’ll be great to get the business back up and running. It’s been a rough road for the strikers and everyone who has been impacted.
And, of course, when it rains, it pours. If you’re like me then I’m sure the bombshell news that Rupert Murdoch was stepping down from his roles at Fox and News Corp. caught you off guard. Michael Wolff, the gifted chronicler of Murdoch and Trump, has a new book out soon about the troubled last few years of Fox News — the 2020 election, the Tucker Carlson firing, the Dominion lawsuit — and its future. The book starts by imagining how Murdoch’s obit will read. I helped The Ankler put together an excerpt from that chapter yesterday, and it’s a great read.
On that note, The Ankler is launching “In Conversation,” a new live series that celebrates some of today’s most interesting authors and tastemakers in a private, invitation-only setting. The series kicks off on Oct. 16 with Wolff, who will sit down with Janice Min at Zibby’s Bookshop in Santa Monica to discuss his new book. Please email events@theankler.com to RSVP, and note that paid subscribers will be given priority.
On to this week’s picks, which are chock-full of entertaining YA and coming-of-age stories. The full rundown:
A YA thriller in the vein of Hijack.
A YA adventure akin to Outer Banks about the hunt for a family fortune.
A YA dramatic romance centered on a couple torn apart when one gets amnesia in an accident.
A drama in the mold of Up in the Air centered on a recent college graduate taking a job at a management consulting firm.
A classic coming-of-age drama centered on a Caribbean au pair living with a wealthy NYC family.
