â An in-flight teen murder mystery and inside the grueling world of management consulting
Welcome to The Optionist. As always, thanks for reading along.
I donât know about you, but Iâm feeling optimistic that weâll see a resolution to the strike very soon. Itâll be great to get the business back up and running. Itâs been a rough road for the strikers and everyone who has been impacted.
And, of course, when it rains, it pours. If youâre like me then Iâm sure the bombshell news that Rupert Murdoch was stepping down from his roles at Fox and News Corp. caught you off guard. Michael Wolff, the gifted chronicler of Murdoch and Trump, has a new book out soon about the troubled last few years of Fox News â the 2020 election, the Tucker Carlson firing, the Dominion lawsuit â and its future. The book starts by imagining how Murdochâs obit will read. I helped The Ankler put together an excerpt from that chapter yesterday, and itâs a great read.
On that note, The Ankler is launching âIn Conversation,â a new live series that celebrates some of todayâs most interesting authors and tastemakers in a private, invitation-only setting. The series kicks off on Oct. 16 with Wolff, who will sit down with Janice Min at Zibbyâs Bookshop in Santa Monica to discuss his new book. Please email events@theankler.com to RSVP, and note that paid subscribers will be given priority.
On to this weekâs picks, which are chock-full of entertaining YA and coming-of-age stories. The full rundown:
