A newsletter about available IP; I do the reading for you
Welcome to The Optionist! Thanks for reading, and if you're here because someone forwarded this, I invite you to sign up during our free beta period here before it ends after Memorial Day. And let me know at andy@theoptionist.community your thoughts, ideas and suggestions.
Following up on the Pulitzers last week, I have two more prizes to mention. Adora and the Distance by TV writer and friend of the Optionist Marc Bernardin (and which we spotlighted in an earlier newsletter), got nominated for an Eisner Award (the Oscars of comics) for best publication for teens. Brad Meltzer, another friend of the newsletter whose new novel Lightning Rod was also featured previously, picked up an Eisner nom for best publication for kids, 8 and under, for I Am Oprah Winfrey along with artist Christopher Eliopoulos. The book is part of his fantastic kids series, Ordinary People Change the World, which has been adapted by PBS as Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum. One addendum to the story of the (maybe) cult recruiting TikTok dancers from two weeks ago: Rights for this are controlled by the writer, who is repped by Sean Daily at Hotchkiss Daily, not NY mag.
Now on to this week’s picks, which include a couple of great detective novels featuring female leads, a new biography of Jim Thorpe and the tragic true story of how a child star’s life unraveled.
