A newsletter about available IP; I do the reading for you
Welcome to The Optionist! As always, thanks for reading. Special thanks to everyone who signed up a for subscription in the last week. Getting this newsletter off the ground has been an amazing experience for me as I’ve dug into pockets of IP far and wide, new and old, and found diamonds in the rough and forgotten treasures just begging for their screen moments. I’m gratified for the support I’ve received from those of you who look forward to each week’s crop. I know of more than half a dozen projects born of materials that producers/dev execs learned about on The Optionist. I can’t wait to see what comes of those projects.
Every week you’ll get a great selection of optionable IP like these recent offerings:
I hope you all stay with me on the next step of the voyage, as we become a paid subscription publication. I’ve loved doing this for you and also have loved personally helping some of you chase down material. I hope you’ll continue to support my work.
The Optionist is offering solo subscriptions for $250 a month (or $2,500 a year — that’s two months free if you buy the year up front). We believe this is a great value, like having an extra set of hands in your organization to find material. We’ll be rolling out a corporate subscription for multiple users within a single organization. I’ve already talked with several companies about it. If you’re interested, email me at andy@theoptionist.community for more information.
I wanted to highlight this story about how independent bookstores are rebounding, particularly ones that cater to a diverse clientele. Independent bookstores have always been the lifeblood of the industry. I still love to wander the aisles of a good independent bookstore for inspiration. (Shout out to West Hollywood’s Book Soup, my neighborhood shop, and the Concord Bookshop, my hometown store, which has long been on lists of the best bookstores in America.)
Now on to this week's picks. We’ve got a great story about a young activist trying to bring down the North Korean regime, a twisty academic mystery, a new look at the Tylenol poisonings of the 1980s and an old piece about New York City’s 1970s hot dog wars. Read on!
